Jamie and Michael's Engagement Shoot

We just managed to squeeze it in!  I've wanted to do an engagement shoot with Jamie and Michael ever since they booked me to shoot their wedding (it's next Saturday!), but Jamie was busy being an Opera singer in Chicago and Michael was busy being a concert pianist out and about Canada so it was a little tricky finding a moment to get them in front of the camera together.  The planets came into alignment yesterday and we kicked off the long weekend with a sunset shoot around Stanley Park.

Impact! Miniseries cameo

Impact7_3 Roxanne called to say I've been cast in a small role on Impact!, a 4 part TV mini-series.  I'll have a cameo as the French Reporter.  My costume fitting is on Monday and I'm scheduled to shoot in Victoria on Vancouver Island at the end of May.

Flying Over Third Beach Yesterday

Flying

I was walking along Third Beach yesterday hoping to find a seal pup I'd noticed Sunday snoozing on the sand while its parents fished in the bay.  I arrived earlier than I had the day before; the tide was out and the seal pup was nowhere to be found.  I wandered along the shoreline.  Looking up, I saw this bird suspended in a thermal updraft.

CBSR Photo Shoot

The Canadian Business for Social Responsibility hired me to do a group photo and some headshots last week.  Here's the company in the lobby of their building (click to enlarge).

Canadian Business for Social Responsibility

As if on cue, a few minutes before we took this shot it started hailing outside.  Nothing like a little thunder and lightning to energize a photo shoot!

Diary of a Madman photoshoot

I did some photos yesterday morning for UBC's production of Diary of a Madman, a play written and directed by MFA candidate David Savoy, adapted from the short story by Nikolai Gogol.

Diary of a Madman, directed and adapted by David Savoy, featuring Ira Cooper, Ryan Warden, Maura Halloran, Aslam Husain, and Kate Hilderman. Photo by Fabrice Grover

The shot above was taken with three wireless flash heads set to what's known as "stroboscopic mode."  My two assistants (thanks guys!) held the flash units to the right and left of our Madman, while 15 pulses of light captured the other actors' movement over the span of a 6 second exposure.  David turned the house lights on and off between shots so we could see what we were doing.

Diary of a Madman: The Cast

Diary of a Madman has been chosen as the top entry in the 18th International Festival of Theatre Schools.  In a few short weeks (April 15-19th), the team will be traveling to the Czech Republic to perform in Brno at the Setkani/Encounter 2008. Pictured from left to right are, back row: Ira Cooper, Ryan Warden, front row: Maura Halloran, Aslam Husain, and Kate Hilderman.  (This time last year, I was acting opposite Kate in a very fun production of Overruled by G.B. Shaw, also directed by David.  For a blast from the past and a few candid photos I took of the cast at our costume fitting, click here).

The company is currently fundraising for their production and travel expenses.  If you would like information on how to get invloved as a sponsor please call Deb Pickman at 604.319.7656.

Stargate: The Ark of Truth movie release

Amelius (Fabrice Grover), the Alteran who invented the Ark of Truth millions of years ago.

This morning my friend Andrew sent me this photo and link to a review of The Ark of Truth, the Stargate movie in which I play Amelius, the Alteran who invented the Ark millions of years ago (and who, it's revealed in the film, came up with the idea for the Stargate).  It's kind of funny because Andrew and I were friends in elementary school back when for "Show & Tell" I used to bring things like electric can openers I'd found at the Salvation Army and take them apart in front of the class and demonstrate how we could use the insides to sharpen screw-drivers and explode chalk.  When my friends asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told them I wanted to be an inventor.  The film is coming out on DVD March 11.
