We hired a taxi driver to take us to Jinshanling, a part of the Great Wall about 3 hours from Beijing. We left at 8am this morning. It was snowing and our driver had never made the trek -- we stopped for directions more than once! Our driver told us he came from a village not far from there so, on our way back, we asked him if he'd like to stop by his town. He showed us the house he used to live in before he moved to Beijing.
We gave a ride to one of the workers on the Great Wall. This kid was walking by with his books in front of her village.
Caro on the main street of our Driver's village.
The roads were icy. We had a bit of a fender bender with a motorcyclist.
Our driver tried to settle the matter amicably.
The motorcyclist's friend was not impressed.
We passed several farms selling pheasants. Hedi was tempted. Caro left him to his own devices to communicate his wishes to a farming couple in broken Chinese. They seemed to get as much a kick out of the exchange as Hedi!
They made quick work of the birds.
Night fell. We stopped for dinner in a nearby town and made our way back to Beijing.
